Editorial Standards

Utilao is written and maintained by one person, Ivan Daniel. There is no separate editorial team and no outside reviewers. This page states plainly what that means for the tools, calculators, and guides you read here — and what it doesn't mean.

Who's Responsible

The Utilao organization publishes the site; Ivan Daniel is personally responsible for every piece of content and every tool's behavior. When a guide byline says "Written and tested by Ivan Daniel," that's literal — it names the one person who wrote it and checked it against the live tool.

Topic Selection

Guides and tools are chosen based on what the existing tool set needs explained (how to actually use a feature, what its limits are) or what common everyday tasks are missing a good free tool. Topics are not chosen or paid for by outside parties.

First-Hand Testing

Before a guide references a tool's behavior, or a tool page states a limit or output format, that claim is checked against the live, deployed version of the tool — not against how it was designed to work or how a similar tool elsewhere works. See Methodology for the specific process per tool type.

Source Hierarchy

Where a guide or calculator states a fact that isn't simply "how this tool behaves" — a formula, a standard, a conversion factor — it's sourced from, in order of preference: official government or standards-body publications, primary technical documentation (library docs, RFCs, format specifications), and established reference sources. Low-quality aggregator sites are not used as a sole source.

Publication and Update Dates

Guides show a published date and, only when the content was materially changed, a separate modified date. We do not backdate or fabricate a "recently updated" date on content that wasn't actually revised.

Corrections

If a guide, tool description, or calculator is reported as inaccurate, it's checked against the live tool or an authoritative source and corrected if the report holds up. Report anything you find at Contact or hello@utilao.com. Corrections update the content and, when the change is material, the guide's modified date — we don't quietly edit without any trace, but we also don't maintain a public changelog for every wording tweak.

Conflicts of Interest and Commercial Policy

Utilao currently carries no advertising and no affiliate links, and named competitor products are not disparaged for competitive reasons. If that changes — if affiliate links or advertising are added — this page and the relevant content will disclose it before or at the same time the change goes live, not after.

AI and Automation Transparency

Automated tools may assist with drafting, consistency checks, code, or testing during development. That assistance does not replace verification: published instructions, examples, formulas, tool behavior claims, and limits are checked against the live implementation before publishing, and no page is published solely from unverified generated text.
