Which tool do you actually need?
- Compress vs Resize: Compress keeps the same pixel dimensions and reduces file size. Resize changes the pixel dimensions — use it first if the image is physically larger than it needs to be, then compress.
- Resize fit, crop, or pad: Fit never crops but may not fill the exact box. Crop always fills the box exactly by trimming the edges. Pad always fills the box exactly with a solid-color border, cropping nothing.
- Convert vs Compress: Convert changes the file format (for example JPG to WebP). Compress reduces size within the same format. You can do both — convert to WebP for a smaller, modern format, or compress a JPG to shrink it without changing format.
- Transparent PNG vs JPEG: A transparent PNG has no background at all, so it drops cleanly onto any layout — but it's lossless, so it can end up larger than a compressed JPEG. Use JPEG (or a solid background) when you have a specific finished background in mind.
