How to Unlock a PDF Online, Free

PDF password protection comes in two forms: a user password (required to open the file at all) and an owner password that restricts actions like printing, copying, or editing while still letting anyone open the file. This tool removes both. If a file only blocks copying or printing, it's unlocked automatically — no password needed. If the file requires a password to open, enter it and the tool produces an unlocked copy with the same content.

Removing Print/Copy Restrictions vs. Opening a Password-Protected File

If a PDF only restricts printing, copying, or editing — but opens without a prompt — the tool removes those restrictions instantly, without needing any password. If the PDF requires a password just to open it, you must know that password; the tool cannot bypass or guess it. This is by design: it authenticates you the same way any PDF reader would, then saves the content without the encryption layer.

Processing and Privacy
