This page describes what the SEO Launch Auditor Chrome extension, and the audit service it talks to, actually do with your data. What SEO Launch Auditor Is
SEO Launch Auditor is a Chrome extension for technical SEO launch-readiness checks — on the page you're currently viewing, or on a small public website. No account or login is required to use it.
Current Page Audits
A Current Page audit runs only when you click the toolbar button — never automatically, and never against any tab other than the one you clicked from. The extension inspects that page for the signals the audit needs: things like URL, page metadata, headings, links, images, structured data (JSON-LD), and rendered-vs-source differences. This runs entirely inside your browser — the page content is not sent to our audit service for this mode. A saved Current Page report stays in your browser's local storage unless you explicitly export or download it.
Full Site Crawl
Full Site Crawl starts only when you explicitly click to start it. Once started, the extension sends the target site's URL to our audit service, which fetches and audits up to 100 public pages of that same site. It does not crawl private or authenticated content — the service only follows public, same-site pages and blocks requests aimed at private, internal, or loopback addresses. The resulting report is returned to your browser.
Changed Pages
Changed Pages also starts only after an explicit action on your part, and it does not run a fresh discovery crawl of your site. Only the specific URLs you select — up to 20 at a time — are sent to our audit service to be rechecked. Pages that recheck successfully are merged into your locally saved site baseline; pages you didn't include in that recheck are left untouched.
Local Storage on Your Device
The extension keeps its own data in your browser's local storage, separate from Chrome's browsing history: your saved audit reports/history, your Changed Pages queue and site baseline, and a short-lived (about five minutes) handoff of a just-finished Current Page result to the side panel. This data is not synced by Chrome to your account. You can clear all of it at any time from History → Data & privacy → Clear all local data inside the extension; doing so does not touch your cookies, browsing history, downloads, or other extensions' data. Uninstalling the extension removes this data automatically, as standard Chrome behavior.
Server-Side Retention
When you run a Full Site Crawl or Changed Pages recheck, our audit service temporarily stores that job's state and result. This is retained for up to 24 hours; a cleanup pass runs roughly every five minutes and clears out anything that has aged past that window — at that point the audit result and identifying job fields (including the target URL) are wiped, not just marked. There is currently no separate on-demand "delete my job" control, since retention itself is short and time-based.
IP Addresses and Operational Logs
When your browser contacts our audit service, the request passes through ordinary web infrastructure (our reverse proxy) the way any HTTPS request does, and that infrastructure may process and log IP addresses for request delivery, rate limiting, abuse prevention, security, and operational reliability. We do not use your IP address for location profiling or advertising. Inside the application itself we deliberately avoid logging your IP address, full URLs, or request bodies — our application logs record only short event names, counts, and internal identifiers. For rate-limiting purposes only, the service derives a one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address (it cannot be reversed back into an IP); that hash is cleared in the same 24-hour cleanup described above.
What We Don't Collect or Do
- No account, sign-in, or profile
- No email collection by the extension
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting SDK
- No advertising and no affiliate tracking
- No sale of your data, and no use of audit data for anything beyond producing your audit
- No creditworthiness, lending, or eligibility use
- No remotely hosted or fetched executable code — everything the extension runs ships inside the reviewed extension package
Current Page audits never leave your browser — but Full Site Crawl and Changed Pages, by design, do send the URL(s) you choose to our audit service, since that's how it fetches and audits pages beyond the one you already have open.
Downloads and Exports
Report exports (Markdown, CSV, HTML, JSON, print, or a full local-data backup) are generated only when you explicitly click to export, and are saved to your device through Chrome's own download picker. Nothing is uploaded anywhere as part of exporting.
Third Parties
We don't share or sell audited content or job data with any third party, and we don't use any third-party analytics or advertising SDK in the extension or the audit service. Requests to the audit service pass through our own reverse proxy on our own server — not a third-party API gateway or vendor endpoint.
Security and Limitations
The audit service is served over HTTPS. It's built to audit public web content — avoid submitting URLs or sites containing highly sensitive or private information you wouldn't want passed to a public-facing service. We apply reasonable technical safeguards, including blocking requests aimed at private or internal addresses, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
